We put together 5 day-trip ideas around the 4 major Northwest Arkansas cities (and Bella Vista!) with a mix of free outdoor activities, local restaurants, interesting stops, and an optional extra-special "splurge" activity. Some locations are perfect for families, and others make a pretty great date day that you can say you planned yourself.

Even if you're a NWA local, there's probably one of the four big cities that you're a little less familiar with. So get out of your usual stomping grounds and find out what's new a little further down I-49.

1. Bentonville: Art, Bikes, Repeat.

Breakfast: Check out local favorite The Buttered Biscuit or get a table at the unique Louise, where you can watch planes take off and land at the Bentonville Municipal Airport while you tuck into breakfast. More of a bagel and go type of person? Ozark Mountain Bagel is calling.

Morning: Start your day at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, where you can enjoy the recent expansion. (Admission is always free!) Explore indoors and out: the museum's outdoor paths are especially nice when the leaves start turning. Check the Crystal Bridges calendar for Fall Events.

Lunch: From there, head toward downtown Bentonville for lunch. Table Mesa is a tested local favorite for foodies, or if you're craving a burger and fries, Townie is your spot. Feeling Frenchie? Check out Bentonville-born Crepes Paulette for savory and sweet crepes.

Afternoon: After lunch, walk around the square, check out the public art, and enjoy the wide pedestrian and bike-friendly spaces. Walk through Compton Gardens, check out 8th Street Market for innovative shops and restaurants, and peek at mind-bending modern art at the Momentary.

Afternoon Treat: Coffee at Airship or Onyx: take your pick from several whimsical locations around Bentonville.

Optional Splurge:

These days, the best way to see Bentonville is by bike, and you don't have to be an expert mountain biker to enjoy riding along the paved trails that connect many of the best sights in Bentonville. Rent e-bikes at Phat Tire or Adventure Lab. To rent e-cargo bikes that can fit the whole family, check out Bentonville Bike Co.

Dinner: There's no shortage of great dinner options in Bentonville. Try Pedaler's Pub or Bentonville Brewing for relaxed and fun dining for the whole family, and Conifer or Sestina for an upscale date night.

2. Rogers: A Lakeside Walk and Eating Around the World

Breakfast: Get a hearty breakfast at Velvet Sunrise or Homegrown. For a cute grab and go stop near downtown, try Nola's Pantry. Or for a classic diner experience that's the oldest restaurant in Benton County, try Wesner's Grill.

Morning: Start at Lake Atalanta, where you can take a paved walk or bike around the lake, explore the wooded areas and excellent playgrounds, and enjoy some fall scenery without paying a dime. There's also ample space to lay out a picnic blanket and have a packed lunch here, too.

Lunch: If you're looking for a restaurant rather than a picnic, head to Rogers' industrial-chic downtown for lunch. Make the meal part of the adventure at Lasang Pinoy NWA, a Filipino restaurant named to the New York Times Restaurant List 2026 or a local favorite, The Rail for pizza and pork shanks.

Afternoon: After lunch, spend some time exploring historic downtown Rogers. Browse the shops, check out the Onyx Coffee Headquarters, and spend some time at the Railyard Park. Check the Rogers, AR, event calendar for Fall Events.

Afternoon Treat: Continue your food journey around the world by grabbing some gelato from Gelatissimo downtown or enjoy a traditional Mexican pastry at Gaby's Bakery.

Optional Splurge: Head over to the "fancy" side of Rogers for shopping at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade or enjoy a round at Top Golf.

Dinner: Try upscale Mexican at Loma or fresh Italian at Mirabella's Table.

3. Springdale: Ozark History, Tacos and Hands-On Nature

Breakfast: Looking for a local diner breakfast that's been around since 1944? Try Neal's Cafe.

Feeling bougie and experimental, with a touch of exquisite design? Try Hail Fellow Well Met.

Morning: Start at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History and spend some time exploring the exhibits and historic buildings.

Lunch: For lunch in Springdale, you can't beat tacos. Carnitas Los Cuatro Hermanos is a particularly good stop, and it's just been named one of the 41 Greatest Mexican Restaurants in the United States by the New York Times. Another great option is Taquería Don Güero, a classic downtown spot with a walk-up window on East Emma Ave. If you'd rather have a sit-down meal, Casa Alejo is another delicious local option on West Emma.

Afternoon: There's plenty to do, see, and shop around Springdale's bustling Emma Avenue, but if you're up for another stop, go experience nature up close at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center. Enjoy the exhibit hall, walking trails, a playground, and even an archery range.

Afternoon Treat: Grab artisan Terrior chocolate in the basement tasting room at Onyx Coffee Lab Springdale, or a coffee and pan dulce at the adorable Mexican coffee shop, Cafe con Chisme.

Optional Splurge: You'll have to plan ahead for this one, but for a unique Springdale experience, book an excursion on the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad, leaving from the Springdale depot. It's an adventurous way to see the changing leaves this fall.

Dinner: There's such a variety of dinner options in Springdale, you can take a look here to find what fits your fancy. For a Springdale classic that's recently been reimagined in a new space, dine at AQ Chicken House.

4. Fayetteville: Gardens, Parks, and College Town Vibes

Breakfast: For a classic "all day breakfast" spot, visit the Rolling Pin Cafe. For a farm to table experience, try The Farmer's Table Cafe.

Morning: Start your Fayetteville day with a walk on the paved trails around Lake Fayetteville, and if you want more time outside, visit the beautiful Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, with a low admission price and interactive stops for adults and children.

Lunch: Hugo's is the classic Fayetteville choice for a burger and local history (and it's underground!) Another highly rated Fayetteville staple is A Taste of Thai for noodles, curries and stir-fries. Nextdoor, Petra Cafe serves Mediterranean and Middle Eastern favorites such as gyros, falafel and hummus, and it's only open for lunch.

Afternoon: Walk around the famously attractive downtown square and browse local shops, and then walk a couple blocks to Dickson Street Bookshop, one of the best second-hand book shops you'll find anywhere.

Afternoon Treat: Grab a sweet bite at Rick's Bakery, open since 1980.

Optional Splurge: Plan ahead and take in an afternoon or evening show at Theater Squared, or take in an Arkansas Razorbacks sporting event.

Dinner: Before dinner, drive up to Mount Sequoyah for a fantastic sunset view. If you enjoy a rooftop spot with a fun atmosphere, try Feed and Folly. For a highly-rated restaurant using local and seasonal foods, head to Mockingbird Kitchen.

5. Bella Vista: Waterfalls, Forest Trails and Beer Gardens

Breakfast: Tiny Turnbuckle Farm punches above its weight with a delicious food truck, adorable farm stand, and a pumpkin patch. Another option is Table a Pain, a French-inspired cafe.

Morning: Start your day at Tanyard Creek Nature Trail, one of Bella Vista's prettiest and most accessible outdoor outings. The wooded trail follows the creek and includes waterfalls, making it especially pretty in the fall.

Lunch: For a casual family meal, El Pueblito is an easy choice for Mexican food. Or check out the brand new Ozzy's Ride and Dine at the OZ Trails Bike Park.

Afternoon (and treat): Head to Blowing Springs Park to enjoy a frozen treat at Crazy Willy's or a craft brew at the Gear Garden while enjoying the naturally chilled air and freshwater spring that comes out from a crack in the cliff face (hence the name "Blowing Springs"). It's so pleasant here, and so kid and family friendly, you may hang out here the rest of the day.

Optional Splurge: Rent e-bikes or mountain bikes from Phat Tire Bella Vista and tour the town's extensive paved and unpaved trails.

Dinner: Don't let the outdoor fun end. Grab a delicious sandwich and enjoy lawn games at The Bend NWA. If you're looking for something a little fancier for date night, try Bella's Table for Italian-inspired dishes and pasta.
